Verse of the Day:
Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that. James 4:15
In the country of Niger where the tribal language is Hausa a common phrase is "Incha Allah" which means "if it God's will. When people ask, "Can we meet at 4:00?" the response is Incha Allah. As we practice the gift of giving, let's not get crazy about the gifts, trusting that God will use us for his purpose should be enough. It is quite possible that you won't immediately recognize a gift that you have given. Perhaps God didn't need anything from you today. We need to trust that God is in charge of this process and we need to answer the call to give with INCHA ALLAH.
As Niger is close to my heart, a gift for me is for you all to keep the people of Niger in your prayers as their country has recently experienced a military coup. There is a movement toward becoming an Islamic State which could endanger the religious freedoms of our Christian brothers and sisters there, but I am sure that their response would be Incha Allah!

Hi Everyone. Sorry I missed breakfast the other day, but I came downstairs Wednesday morning to large puddle under the hot water heater. So, I spent the day removing, buying and installing a hot water heater. When I was telling my saga to my partners the next day they were amazed that I not only knew how solder, plumb and electrically connect a new hot water heater, but that I had all the ‘tools’ I needed. I told them about an old adage my father told me back when we first started doing projects together. “When you go out to get parts for a project make sure you pick up a few extra. You never know when an emergency is going happen and you’ll need them.” My gift today was to call my Dad in Myrtle Beach and thank him for giving me the wide array of tools that I use every day and for the ones I only use in an emergency.
ReplyDeleteToday is Saturday, Day 4, and I am having trouble coming up with a gift. Usually Saturdays are spent with my family and they don't usually need anything from me. So, I am hoping, as Sue posted, that either God didn't need anything from me today or I have given a gift that I haven't recognized.
ReplyDeleteToday I received 2 gifts. The first was from Kelsey. Her participation in this 40 day adventure is an absolute inspiration. She shows a maturity beyond most college students her age, and an ability to express her faith in words. The second was from Pastor John Evans in Sierra Vista, Arizona who sent an email to remind us that he is in prayer for us. Today we attended the 40th birthday party of a young cousin, pregnant with her 3rd child. As we were driving to Lakewood, I couldn't help but think of the gift of a baby. My gift today was wrapped and presented to her.
