Verse of the Day:
"You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" Matthew 14:31b
When Kelsey was little she had many fears, most were irrational and sometimes I would quote this verse to help calm her. But aren't we all just like Kelsey. We live so much of our lives in fear, worried about our loved ones, finances, the church, our health. We think that we can have some control over these things in our lives, but when the "wind blows" we get scared. If you read the verse prior to the verse of the day it says, "But when he (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out. Lord, save me! Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him." Matthew 15:30-31a. We need to remember that when we get scared, Jesus is there and will IMMEDIATELY reach out and catch us. Give today without fear - knowing that Jesus will catch us if he needs to.

Today’s blog reminds me of a story that I repeated at breakfast on Wednesday. I heard the story at a Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, Florida when I attended last week with Jean Mallows (also participating in the 40 days of giving) and Carl & Ethel Sutphin.
ReplyDeleteA man had loved the circus since childhood. He loved when the railroad cars carrying the entertainers came to town. He loved to watch the performers working together to erect the tents. He loved watching them march around inside the tent with their costumes - the clowns, the animals, all of it. But he particularly loved watching the aerialist perform. He was intrigued by his grace; his freedom of flight. As an adult, the man travelled to Germany to meet his favorite aerialist. They hung out and talked about what it was like to swing on the trapeze with total abandon. The man praised the flyer for his talent. However the flyer would not take any credit. He said he was just the flyer. It was not he who was significant to the performance, but the catcher. He could fly to the catcher, put out his arms, but not grab for the catcher. It had to be the catcher that grabbed him. The timing had to be perfect. The flyer had to have total confidence in the catcher.
Do we have that kind of confidence to reach out our arms and know that with perfect timing our God will catch us?
